Space rockets have always been very close to my heart, since appearing as an x wing pilot in the first Star Wars film back in 1976, defeating the Death Star – I was living out the dream of a space adventurer through the most iconic sci-fi film of all time, working on scenes with George Lucas, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford! I have always been in love with our Universe.
I always felt extremely lost at school with having dyslexia and my one escape from this world was riding my bike and staring at the stars. This took me away from reality and gave me the space in my mind that I needed.
Fast forward, I decided to create Jonnie Rocket when both of my daughters were young, at the time I was extremely tired of seeing aggressive animation with the use of bad language in almost anything they saw. Jonnie Rocket was created from my childhood experience – something I remember always picturing in my mind whilst I was on my own bike.
The Universe is such an incredible place and there are so many subjects I just cannot wait to share with you.
All I wish is for young children to be able to loose themselves in my books, learn such important life skills and have the ambition to be whoever they wish to be, no matter what the outside world tells them.
