The Jonnie Rocket series was created to encourage young people to have self-belief and to open their minds to endless creative thoughts, the imagination is such an incredible place. All children should be encouraged to use this whenever possible – through Jonnie Rocket, young people can become space adventurers, experiencing the wonders of the Universe and the boundless possibilities that lie beyond our solar system. This positive book set is all about being able to go out on adventures and discover life, as life is such an adventure and what a lovely thing to learn so young. With playground play and creative time being so important within schools it is such a great thing to be able to zone in on and create focus around for the children to be able to experience something a little different from a text book.
There is such power of a comic book and children being able to even use their own imagination against the picture that is shown – making up their own adventures in place. Jonnie Rocket in a non-confrontational, non-violent and has total self belief but in a quietly confident non-arrogant way. Every space adventure and earthly mission carried out by Jonnie Rocket has an underlying moral story. Through this heroic character, young people can experience the challenging moral dilemmas of everyday life but in an exciting, entertaining way. Whilst having the opportunity to be able to relive the story in their own imaginative way should they wish.
The books provide a space to give all children confidence in who they are and self belief that the world is what they make it, imagination aids in the development of social, emotional, creative, psychical, lingual and problem-solving skills in children. They are such important lessons to develop in early childhood, as they can be good markers for understanding a child’s overall development. As children use their imagination they explore relationships between family members, friends and learn more about how people interact.
Jonnie Rocket believes every young person has the potential to become a ‘Jonnie Rocket’.
Did you know that when children have a home library, as little as 20 books of their own, they achieve more years of schooling than children who don’t have any books at home. If they are to read just 20 minutes a day they can read 1,800,000 word per year – children who read 1,000,000 words a year are in the top 2% of reading achievement. Aside from this books can be the fastest way to build vocabulary with children learning 4,000 to 12,000 words per year through reading. If parents are to read just one book a day to their children they would have read 1825 books by their 5th birthday.
Jonnie Rocket has proven to be a great book for reluctant readers with the speech bubbles all being the background colour of ‘cream’ to help dyslexic children and vibrant colours throughout making the books even more ideal for every day readers. Superhero’s are always an inspiration for young people and the reason for that is that they make the world a better place. I have been very fortunate to be able to attend schools and create workshops which cover 3 main learning objectives, school transport, seatbelts and not distracting drivers. With 80 schools attended for a particular programme giving all children an in depth sense of information on how this behaviour can have an impact and target the problem head on. As well as the book being able to be used in Art, Creative Writing, Story Mountains and even the Anti Bullying element to it, it is something that can truly deliver on many things.
Everyone loves a comic right? Including you adults!
So come and take a look..
